More CRESCENT CITY MAGICK

Tue Nov 24, 2009, 5:58 PM
Uploaded a couple more CRESCENT CITY MAGICK pages (pages 15 and 16, of 22), as I get closer to the end of issue/chapter three. Still no publisher...

I just finished a private commission - - a superhero themed Christmas/Holidays picture, to be used as the patron's Christmas/Holidays card. I don't think it would be proper to share it here, before the client has made use of it, but don't see any harm in posting it later - - probably after New Year's Day.

In case I don't post again until after -- have a Happy Thanksgiving everyone, whether you're in the US and celebrate it on that day, or not -- if nothing else, have a happy Thursday:)

  • Mood: Artistic
  • Listening to: Aqualung -- by Jethro Tull
  • Reading: Black House, by King and Straub

Hiya there C: Sorry about not commenting for a while; it's been busy. I'll try to drop by when I have more time and try to understand the pages more; I kinda lost the stream of the story, what with me short attention span ^^;

Seriously though, I've got this renewed appreciation for your inking and style :) Be back soon <3

Your work is very good. If I had to guess the the basis of those thinking your stuff is retro or such is possibly due to the fact that your hairstyles seem to be stuck in the 80's and possibly early 90's.

You mean back when I might have had hair? :) My hairline began pulling back to fringe defenses when I was still a teen and my dome was shiny by 25.

The main characters in CRESCENT CITY MAGICK are kind of unusual when it comes to hair, I guess.

Clayton has been on the road, bouncing from place to place for while and his hairstyle is one of neglect... with sideburns, which are kind of '90s retro... and then they were '70s retro...

Julia's style isn't style more a whimsical tatterdemalion,Celtic, gypsy, Renn-fest, thrift-shop and even dumpster diving. Her hair "style" reflects her overall style.

But I don't think "retro" and ideas about marketable were referring to hairstyles. My linework has influences from '70s comics, from 1890s to 1910s illustration and Pre-Raphaelite painting. But, like hairstyles, everything old becomes new again, so maybe I'm ahead of the curve...:)

Thanks for the compliment.

I'm not defensive, just weary of people expecting everything good to look alike, with even crap that's "in style" being seen as marketable - - I've never bought anything because it was "in style". It's an artificial concern.

Sorry for the long-winded reply.

I can't quite recall based on your little profile photo, but is there any chance I waited in a Marvel portfolio lineup with you 4 years ago in Chicago? haha

Very cool stuff, your inking style is really cool, but at times maybe not very marketable...have you tried breaking in as just a penciller?
